I clicked on this story reluctantly as I knew I'd be horrified by the content. However, these stories must be told, not only for the victims of these crimes but for the witnesses. Education and public awareness of these kinds of atrocities are ways to start advocating for change. You've done this here Benjamin by having the courage to write and share this story.
Most people would like to think they'd have the courage to protest and continue to fight the system until it was changed. Most wouldn't.
Military and cultural leaders are the ones to blame for allowing, encouraging or turning a blind eye to these kinds of atrocities. They are also responsible for the millions of traumatized individuals who, if they survive, have to battle a lifetime of PTSD.
